A Hummingbird on a Rose Bush

A hummingbird on a rose bush
In early dawn the hummingbird flies
In the start of the sunrise
How delicately her small wings beat
How gently she and the rose bush meet
She sucks the nectar from each flower
Then returns home to her bower
And the years may come and go
But the hummingbird will not slow
Returning each and every day
In each morning’s sunlit ray.
